March 13th 2020, Bologna (Italy). In an unusually empty Piazza Maggiore (the city's main square) an encounter between a man and a woman is held keeping the safety distance imposed by the Italian authorities as a measure to fight the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. Only pigeons surrounds them and the woman wears a mask. In March 2020, following the outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19) started in Italy in late February 2020, the Italian authorities imposed very drastic measures to try and contain the contagion. Amid fear for a collapse of the public health service, since March 9th the entire country is in lockdown: people are allowed to leave their houses only for primary needs, and social distancing (keeping a safety distance from each other) is imposed by law. These measures are enforced by the police, and those not complying with them may face harsh sanctions and even jail.
