Covid-Riviera

Covid-19 heavily affected tourism, and the case of the Italian seaside region ‘Riviera Romagnola’ is emblematic.

The tourist season take-off period, normally happening in late May, coincides in 2020 with the end of a 3-months lockdown for coronavirus outbreak in Italy. Half-empty beaches, face masks, closed or deserted hotels and urbanization works postponed from winter are the image of an atypical start of the tourist season in this vacation hotspot. And the forecast of a drastic drop in tourist numbers looms over the rest of the season.
